A three-time Grammy nominee with multiple Blues Foundation awards, Bibb is known and revered globally for having carved his own musical destiny with honesty and power. Eric’s father, the late Leon Bibb, was an activist, actor, and folksinger who marched at Selma with Dr. Martin Luther King. Eric’s youth was spent immersed in the Greenwich Village folk scene. Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Pete Seeger were visitors to his home. He was deeply influenced by Odetta, Richie Havens and Taj Mahal, and he has synthesized all of that into his very own style.

Eric Bibb is one of the world’s most prolific Blues troubadours, with an illustrious career spanning 5 decades and over 40 albums. Bibb has received three Grammy nominations, multiple Blues Foundation ‘Artist of the Year’ and ‘Album of the Year’ awards, and countless more accolades along the way. As Eric reflects on his musical journey, gratitude pervades. Evolution is evident in his voice and guitar playing, with his words providing grounding in truth and fostering a vision of unity amid a world filled with divisive rhetoric. Eric Bibb is more than a blues troubadour; he is a storyteller and philosopher. His legacy is not just in the notes he plays or the stages he graces, but in the questions, he poses and the hope he instills. His latest release is Eric Bibb Live at the Scala Theatre in Stockholm. The album will be officially released on April 5th but is currently available for preorder.

BOOK REVIEW

-By Literary Titan (5) STARS

The Rock Star Chronicles by Ray Shasho, is a splendid book written by a music enthusiast who has poured their heart and soul into it. It’s a story of a boy who loved rock music, and his obsessive passion of it earned himself the name Rock Raymond. He went to school but instead was schooled in all matters of music while his peers were buried chin-deep in coursework. He then became a radio DJ and has now compiled a book on all interviews he held with Rock gods who raided the airwaves back in the 70s and 80s. It’s a compilation of interviews with outstanding vocalists, legendary guitarists and crazy drummers in the rock music scene. Each interview gives a reader an in-depth view into their personal lives and the philosophies that guide their lives which all serve to humanize these great icons. For readers who are old enough to call themselves baby boomers this book will bring old memories back to life. Millennials, on the other hand, may think of this book as a literal work of the Carpool Karaoke show.

The Rock Star Chronicles is a book I didn’t know I was waiting for. To come across a book that will talk me into trying something new. One brave enough to incite me to venture into new frontiers. This book made me a believer- I am now a bona fide Rock and Roll music fan.

Ray Shasho masterfully gets the interviewees talking. He smartly coaxes answers from them with crafty questions designed to get a story rolling out of them. The artists talk about diverse issues ranging from music, politics, and their social engagements. Having been on the music seen all his life, Ray Shasho knows the buttons to press, how to get them comfortable about talking about their lives.

The book’s cover is befitting of its subject matter with the leather look offering a royal background to the golden letter print. It speaks to how high a level rock music holds in the pecking order- arguably, modern music as we know it has originated from blues and rock music.  The second noteworthy thing is the use of high-definition pictures to reference the musician being interviewed in every sub-chapter. This ensures that the book is for both original rock and roll lovers and aspiring new ones. Together is makes for a refreshing and consistently enjoyable read.

I recommend this book to rock music enthusiasts, aspiring musicians wondering what it takes and all readers curious to learn new things by going back in time.

Anekdoten is a Swedish progressive rock band. They are notable for the use of the mellotron, and their heavy sound dominated by a pounding bass guitar. Their music is associated with the tradition of 1970s progressive rock music, especially that of King Crimson. Since 2015 former The Church guitarist Marty Willson-Piper has been touring with the band.

Anekdoten are considered one of the leading bands in contemporary progressive rock. Their intensive, dark, dynamic and for each subsequent release more original music have also made an appeal among metal-, goth- and post-rock fans all over the world.  Formed in 1991 by Anna Sofi Dahlberg, Nicklas Barker, Peter Nordins and Jan Erik Liljeström and the lineup has remained intact since the beginning.

Anekdoten has released 5 studio albums on their own Virta-label and 3 live albums in Japan. The Anekdoten album sales have exceeded 85 000 copies. Their debut album ‘Vemod’ was released in 1993 and caused a considerable stir within the prog community. The success of the debut album opened up for both a first European- and American tour in 1994. The band’s most recent release is entitled Until All the Ghosts Are Gone. Rumor has it that they are currently working on a brand-new album. Guitarist/singer/songwriter Nicklas Barker released a solo album called EPEKTASIS in 2022.

Along with ANGLAGARD, ANEKDOTEN is the most famous example of the new Scandinavian School. This trend mixes dark and gloomy influences with an extreme energy a bit in the way of KING CRIMSON on "Red" or UNIVERS ZERO. The orchestration includes Mellotron and cello (All performed by the pretty Anna Sofi DAHLBERG!) and allows to turn in one second from a vaporous atmosphere to the paroxysm of frenzy. "Vemod" (1993) can be considered as a total masterpiece, and "Nucleus" follows right in the wake. Music with a rare intensity which let any listener breathless.

The sixth album, "Until All The Ghosts Are Gone" (2015), took eight years to come to life. The time needed for ANEKDOTEN to fully focus its energy and its inspiration. The result is, six tracks both sublime and without concession, worth of the Golden Age of the band. Unchanged for almost a quarter of a Century, the Swedish foursome invited three prestigious musicians at the feast: keyboardist Per WIBERG (OPETH), British saxophonist-flautist Theo TRAVIS (Robert FRIPP, Steven WILSON, GONG...) and guitarist Marty WILSON-PIPER (ALL ABOUT EVE).
